Duncan McHale MD PhD

Duncan McHale is a clinical geneticist and early drug development specialist with over 25 years of experience leading clinical development programs in both biotech and major pharmaceutical companies.

 

As co-founder of Weatherden and former CMO at Evelo Biosciences, Duncan has guided assets through late discovery and early development, covering a wide range of therapeutic areas including inflammation, oncology, neuroscience, and rare diseases. At UCB Pharma, Duncan led Global Early Development overseeing all programs transitioning into development including bimekizumab and rozanolixizumab which are now approved medicines. He currently sits on the supervisory board of Evotec and Chairs the board at Synaptra.  His earlier roles at AstraZeneca and Pfizer focused on pharmacogenetics, personalized medicine, and translational sciences, contributing to the development of therapies such as Maraviroc, Iressa, and Anifrolumab.

 

Duncan has held significant leadership positions in industry and regulatory committees, including chairing the Medical Research Council’s Stratified Medicine Governance Committee and serving as European industry representative to the Genomic biomarker ICH working party. He is recognized for expertise in early drug development, biomarker qualification and stratified medicine.
